KAMAS, Utah, November 18, 2016—South Summit High School kicked off Utah College Application Week Monday night with a Financial Aid Information Night for students and parents.

About 50 students and their parents gathered Monday to learn about the many financial aid resources available including scholarship opportunities. They also learned about the importance of filling out a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) form.

Counselor Amy Reagan reminded families that, “College can be anything from a one-year certificate, to a two-year associate degree, to a four-year bachelor’s degree and beyond, so there really is an option for everyone.”

Utah College Application Week, part of the National American College Application Campaign initiative, is designed to help high school seniors navigate the college admissions process and ensure that each student has an opportunity to submit an application during the school day with support from counselors and teachers.

“This initiative aligns perfectly with our vision statement, Valuing students and preparing them for success,” says Superintendent Shad Sorenson. “It’s vital that we give our students the tools they need to achieve their goals and our counseling department provides those resources.”

Utah College Application Week continued with senior English classes dedicated to the application process. With help from the school’s counseling department, college ambassadors, parents and former students, 79 seniors completed at least one college applications this week.
